PHILLY CLOWN SLAM: THE THREETH OF JULY! Hosted by the Fluxus Brothers

Event description

Like a pack of freshly minted fireworks, two performance collectives—Philly Clown Slam and the Fluxus Brothers—explode together right here in America’s birth-place, both in celebration and degradation of America’s birth-day.

Clowning is a centuries-old, old-world practice, and yet the clown’s crimson nose symbolizes something all-American. Like a bright red cherry atop a friendly sundae, the clown’s nose evokes the sights, smells, and noise of both the big top circus and certain politicians who act as though the Capitol’s dome was their very own circus tent. Perhaps these jobs are interchangeable. Regardless, Philly Clown Slam has one job to do, and they shall o it for you.

Meanwhile, Fluxus is that bohemian performance art movement birthed in New York in the 1960s. Fluxus attracted artists from all over the world, and its melting pot of experimentation was wholly American in its very anti-Americanism. The Fluxus Brothers recreate the spirit of 20th century’s absurdist avant garde, seasoned for the 21st century palette.

But who cares about all that? Just come to the show. You’ll see clowns. Some guys in ties will do stuff between each clown act. You’ll stroke your chin while laughing your ass off. It’ll be a hoot and a half, so bring all your friends and then some.

Doors to Clown Slam open at 8:30 PM. Come early to see the Fashions of Paradise, Birds, and Other Wisdoms art show. Tix to Clown Slam are $10-$30 sliding scale, and no one will be turned away for lack of whatnot.
