Event description

Chamber Music and Philosophy for American Independence Day

The next Kendall’s PhiloMusica event on Sunday July 4 July 18 pays tribute to American Independence at the Kendall School of Arts featuring a program of music by Copland, Gershwin, Dvorak and Barber. Renowned Australian Concert Pianist Phillip Shovk returns to Kendall to perform with pianist Jeanell Carrigan and violinist Goetz Richter in a superb program of popular music inspired by nature and truth.

The popular Kendall PhiloMusica series explores music in the context of a discussion of philosophical ideas. PhiloMusica on July 4 July 18 will present the thought of Henry Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson – the nineteenth century New England Transcendalists who continued to powerfully influence social and ecological political movements throughout the twentieth century including movements of civil disobedience and the advancement of human rights. The series is convened by Kendall National Violin Competition Artistic Director Goetz Richter and all profits of the concert will benefit the Kendall National Violin Competition. Further dates of the series in 2021 are September 5 and November 7.
