Philosophies of Change: Working Against, With or In Organisations for Impact
Event description
Why we do what we do is clear. We care. We can’t stand injustice. We understand we are custodians of the future as links in the chain of life. The reasons why we pursue change are endless, personal and clear.
The what we do and how we do it often varies though and where uncertainty and doubts emerge. Under our actions are conscious or unconscious ideas and theories about what will be most effective, most efficient and most impactful. Often our actions are catalysed within the parameters or limitations of an operating environment - real or perceived. Many times how we deliver those actions are informed by BAU tools and practices - powerpoint and papers and meetings. What if there were other ways to do this work though? What if you knew of other philosophies that expanded those limitations or created new ways of doing the execution of your work?
This Supper Club evening will explore the philosophies that inform the work of the sustainability professional. From how that varies across different types of organisations to the shared stories of success and setback each of us hold in our efforts to be the change maker we strive to be.
Join special guests and two legends of our field Richard Boele and Cris Parker as we hear from them on how they’ve navigated their extraordinary careers working against, working with and working in all types of enterprises from the large to the small, in Australia and abroad.
Making change isn’t easy. It’s even more difficult without clarity on the philosophies and mindsets that underpin the decisions you’ll make and the consequences that ensue. The work of the sustainability professional is fundamentally about change and this night will explore the myriad ways we all navigate and understand our choices to make that change.
This night will give you a new set of perspectives to take back into your work to reflect on your progress to date, what’s worked so far and what you could alter or adjust into the future to be effective in the way you aspire to be.
Dinner will be served up by Gus_tronomy (vegetarian FYI), with drinks from our friends at Grifter Brewing Co.
