    About the Facilitator

Pia Johnson is a photographer and visual artist whose practice emerged out of concern with issues of cultural identity and difference, stemming from her mixed background of Chinese Italian-Australian descent.

As one of Australia’s distinctive performance photography and portrait artists, Pia has commissions from major performing arts organisations for over a decade.

Exhibited across Australia and internationally, her works have been in numerous prizes and are collected in private and public collections including the National Gallery of Victoria. Pia received the 2023 Kerri Hall Fellowship for Performing Arts at the State Library of Victoria and was an Artist in Residence at the Immigration Museum Victoria where her show Re-Orient is exhibited.  She is a lecturer at RMIT University and is a board member of Punctum Inc. Pia holds a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual arts) from the University of Melbourne and a PhD (Art) from RMIT University.
