Piano by Heart
Description
Piano by Heart
An hour of improvised piano to rest, move and sound.
Come as you are. Lie back on a thick futon or bolster in a softly lit, dark, cosy room, and let an hour of live, improvised piano move through you.
There’s nothing to do and nothing to get right. Some people rest the whole time. Some drift into sleep. Some feel the urge to stretch, sway or hum along. All of it is welcome.
Every note is made up in the moment, played live by Melbourne pianist Daniele Buatti, responding to the room and the people in it. No two sessions are the same.

FAQs
- Do I need any experience with meditation or music?
Not at all. There’s nothing to learn and nothing to do. Just arrive, get comfortable and listen.
- What will actually happen?
You’ll settle onto a futon or bolster, the lights go low, and I play an hour of live, improvised piano. Then we close quietly with a cup of tea. There’s no talking or guided instruction during the music.
- Can I move or make sound?
Yes. You’re welcome to stretch, sway, hum or sigh, whatever your body wants. You’re equally welcome to lie completely still. There’s no right way to do it.
- What if I fall asleep?
That’s completely fine, and it happens often. Rest is the point.
- Is this a sound bath?
It’s in a similar spirit, but everything is played live on piano and made up in the moment. No two sessions are the same.
- Can I sit instead of lying down?
Of course. Chairs are available, and bolsters work well for sitting too.
- What should I bring?
Wear comfortable clothes. Bring a blanket, eye mask or water bottle if you like. Futons and bolsters are provided.
- What if I’m running late?
Please arrive by 5:15pm, when the music begins. To keep the room undisturbed, late arrivals may need to wait for a natural pause before coming in.
- Can I take photos or videos?
Please keep phones off and away during the session, so everyone can fully switch off.
- I have an injury or a specific need. Is that okay?
Absolutely. Let me know when you book, or use “Contact host”, and I’ll make sure you’re comfortable.
- Is it suitable for children?
This session is designed for adults and teens who can rest quietly for an hour.
- How do I get there?
HUMM is at 144 St Kilda Rd, St Kilda. Trams run along St Kilda Road.
- What’s the refund policy?
Refunds are available up to 7 days before the event. Places are limited to 15, so if you can’t make it, refunding early lets someone else take your spot.
- Will there be more sessions?
I hope so! Follow me on Humanitix or Instagram to hear about the next one.
