Pickles and Preserves - Easy and tasty ways to fill your pantry with free food from your garden
Summer always brings lots of fresh food. Free from your garden or very cheap at the markets. So why not preserve it and have a pantry full of pickled and preserved staples to enjoy through the year!
I'll have my favourite seasonal recipes for you to taste and make at this hands-on and downright delicious class.
We'll have a selection of lacto-fermented pickles to make that may include Watermelon rind, which is crunchy and beautiful, and nasturtium pods.
We will do a selection of cucumber herbed pickles or sweet sandwich slices, spiced beetroot that's nothing like the canned stuff, and a selection of whatever else we can harvest from our organic garden and convert to deliciousness in jars. And have your made your own sushi ginger before? You are going to love it!!!
I'll also show you how I use the Water Bath Method maximise the safe storage of our produce.
This class will be a favourite if you hate waste, and love home made food more than mass produced supermarket tins.
It's a fresh and fabulous afternoon where you'll take some jars of pickles home to tempt the family.
I run this class in the summer as we have plenty of produce to work with from the garden and we can work in the green room in comfort with the air-conditioning. It's just a small class for 6 people so we have plenty of room to move, plenty of hands-on food prep time and ample opportunity for learning.
