Pilbara Aboriginal Strike 80th Anniversary Commemorative Walk

Friday 1 May 2026 marks the 80th Anniversary of the Pilbara Aboriginal Strike. Come Along, Come Together as one community, in solidarity, strength, celebration, and respect on a Commemorative Walk to mark the occasion.

The walk will travel from Desert Wave Records on Anderson Street along to Milpaku Kuma (Port Hedland Community Centre) on McGregor Street in Port Hedland. 3km and 1km options are available to ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate.

3km walk

Starting point: Desert Wave Records, 88 Anderson Street, Port Hedland

Time: Departing at 4:00pm

1km walk

Starting point: Port Hedland Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services, corner of Coolinda Street and Anderson Street

Time: Departing at approximately 4:30pm as the 3km walkers pass by

Support on the walk

Free water, snacks, shade stops will be available along the route. Support vehicles and St John first aid services will be in place.

Community Event

Following the walk, attendees are encouraged to attend the Community Event from 5pm-8:30pm at Milpaku Kuma (Port Hedland Community Centre). Featuring storytelling, activations, and performances, everyone is welcome to learn, listen and acknowledge the 80th Anniversary of the Pilbara Aboriginal Strike.

Note for attending on the day

Please park your vehicle at Milpaku Kuma (Port Hedland Community Centre) where shuttle busses will transfer you to the 3km or 1km starting point. Shuttle service will commence from 3:15pm.
