Event description

Pretend you are an echidna searching for ants, learn echidna songs, and craft one to take home. These sessions allow children to explore and discover at their own pace with a variety of activities, stories and crafts.

Pirrku Explorers is a social session with a range of educational activities suitable for children approximately 2 - 7 years and their carers. Each month we explore a new theme, discover something new and make friends playing along the way.  Pirrku Explorers takes place on the first Friday of each month.

The Kaurna word for story is pirrku and Pirrku Garden is the name of the garden area at the rear of the Evanston Gardens Library.  This program takes place (weather depending) outside in the Pirrku Garden. The area has dappled shade so we recommend hats and sunscreen. If the weather is not suitable we will relocate inside the library.

Upcoming Programs:

November is Dinovember - Fossils

This child-led session makes use of the I want to be a Scientist: Tick Tock I Spy a Rock Kit developed by Libraries SA, Inspiring SA and the South Australian Museum. We will be playing with fossils, dinosaurs and rocks through stories, hands on activities and a take home craft.

December – Christmas

Pirrku Explorers is a child-led session where families can move from activity to activity in their own time and at their own pace. Children either play alongside, talking with their carer, or perhaps discover friendships with other families. This month our stories, songs, activities and crafts are Christmas themed with a splash of natureplay.

The Pirrku Garden project has received funding from the Department of Education's Local Government Early Childhood Community Innovation Grant administered by the Local Government Association of South Australia. Views and findings associated with this project are expressed independently and do not necessarily represent the views of the Government of South Australia or the Local Government Association of South Australia.
