Event description

For nearly 15 years, The Langan Band—John Langan, Alastair Caplin, and Dave Tunstall—have forged a lawlessly virtuosic sound, tearing through genre boundaries with wild energy, emotional depth, and sheer musical joy.

Initially united by a shared love of traditional music, the trio quickly found common ground in reshaping and reimagining folk forms into bold, genre-defying compositions. Early recognition came with the prestigious Danny Kyle Award at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections Festival.

Ayrshire-born John Langan fronts the band with fiery guitar, sharp vocals, and a custom foot percussion rig. To his right, violinist Alastair Caplin blends classical training with the ferocity of Hebridean reels and prog-jazz improvisation. Stage left, Angus-born Dave Tunstall anchors the sound with double bass, crafting eerie soundscapes and thunderous textures. Together, their razor-tight three-part harmonies elevate the experience into a euphoric, orchestral frenzy.

Drawing from Scottish trad, Eastern European gypsy, prog-jazz, and American old-time, The Langan Band’s sound resists definition—but it’s utterly irresistible. Their music is as intimate as it is explosive, rooted in tradition yet always reaching into the unknown.
