  Lucy Guerin

  Award-winning choreographer Lucy Guerin was born in Adelaide, Australia, and graduated from the Centre for Performing Arts in 1982 before dancing with Russell Dumas (Dance Exchange) and Nanette Hassall (Danceworks). Guerin moved to New York in 1989 for seven years where she danced with Tere O’Connor Dance, the Bebe Miller Company and Sara Rudner, and began to produce her first choreographic works. In 2002 she founded Lucy Guerin Inc (LGI) in Melbourne, to support the development and creation of new works with a focus on challenging and extending the discourse and practice of dance and building a vibrant community of dance artists. Guerin’s works have merged with film, words, music, design, and visual art in collaboration with many other artists. New productions are generated through an experimental approach to the creative process. Guerin works towards creating small societies in her productions that devise their rules from the human body’s relationship to space, rhythm, and other people. The dancers are her primary collaborators. Guerin has been commissioned by companies including Mikhail Baryshnikov’s White Oak Dance Project (USA), Lyon Opera Ballet (France), Chunky Move (Australia), Dance Works Rotterdam (Netherlands), Skånes Dansteater (Sweden), and Rambert (UK). Her awards include the Sidney Myer Performing Arts Award, a New York Dance and Performance Award (‘Bessie’) and multiple Green Room, Helpmann, and Australian Dance Awards. In 2016, Guerin received the Australia Council Award for Dance, and in 2020 the Order of Australia (OA).

  Kate Davis — Dramaturgy & Costume Design

  Kate Davis is a multidisciplinary artist working as a director, designer and visual artist, and Co-Artistic Director and Co-CEO of feminist experimental performance company The Rabble. Her work spans theatre, performance, set and costume design, and she has created and designed an extensive body of work with The Rabble, including Orlando, Frankenstein, Joan, My Dearworthy Darling and UNWOMAN, presented at Malthouse Theatre, Arts House, Carriageworks, Melbourne Festival, Brisbane Festival, Dark MOFO and Dublin Fringe Festival, among others. As an independent designer Kate has worked with Chunky Move, Melbourne Theatre Company, Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir St Theatre, Malthouse Theatre, Carriageworks and Melbourne Fringe Festival. She teaches and mentors for VCA, Monash University, Arts House, Australia Council’s JUMP Mentorship program and Dublin Fringe Festival, and co-founded THE RABBLE internship program.

  Alisdair Macindoe — Sound Design & Composition

  Alisdair Macindoe is an independent multidisciplinary choreographer and sound artist based in Melbourne. With an interest in extending the boundaries of choreographic practice, his work spans dance, sound, electronics, coding and text, and has explored automated dance, artificial intelligence, new technology for music expression, and identity. His independent and collaborative work has been commissioned and presented widely, including Plagiary (Now or Never Festival; Sydney Opera House Unwrapped; Noorderzon Festival), DULL BOY (Australasian Dance Collective; Brisbane Powerhouse), PROGRESS REPORT (Vitalstatistix; The Substation; Sydney Dance Company) and MEETING, co-created with Antony Hamilton, which toured across 35 international seasons. Macindoe has received six Green Room Awards, an Australian Helpmann Award and a New York Performing Arts Award (‘Bessie’). He was the 2019 Resident Director at Lucy Guerin Inc, the 2019 Ausdance Peggy Van Praagh Choreographic Fellow, and a 2020–21 Sidney Myer Foundation Creative Fellow.

  Paul Lim — Lighting Design

  Paul Lim is a Melbourne-based lighting designer with broad experience across theatre, festivals and events in Australia and internationally. His work for Lucy Guerin Inc includes Metal, Make Your Own World, The Dark Chorus, Split and NewRetro. Other credits include The Magic Flute (New Zealand Opera), Changes 變 and Siva (Black Grace Dance Company), Fault Lines (Le Shan Modern Dance Company), Trapper and Robot Song (Arena Theatre Company), and several productions for Briefs Factory including Hot Brown Honey and Briefs: Close Encounters. Paul is a director of Additive, providing lighting design and technical solutions to the entertainment industry.
