Planet Youth Port Pirie Community Workshop
Event description
Summary:
Community presentation and workshop to explore local youths’ experiences with alcohol and other drugs and identify opportunities to apply Iceland’s successful Planet Youth prevention model in Port Pirie.
You're invited to join the Planet Youth Port Pirie Community Workshop
The Substance Misuse Port Pirie Local Drug Action Team, with the support of the Alcohol and Drug Foundation, is pleased to host this community workshop that will lead to the development of activities to reduce alcohol and other drug harm among young people locally. Attendance at this exclusive workshop is by invitation only.
Hear about the findings from Planet Youth’s recent research project, undertaken in our local high schools, to develop an understanding of the issues associated with Port Pirie teenagers’ experiences around alcohol and other drugs and help identify opportunities to make a difference.
The workshop will include:
1. An overview of the Planet Youth model and the results of the Planet Youth schools survey, conducted late last year among local year 10 students. Experts from Planet Youth, who analysed the survey data, will be presenting via video link from Iceland.
2. An interactive session to explore local opportunities to address the survey findings, mapping out a blueprint for action, based on the Planet Youth model – which addresses the four fundamental domains of influence for teens: fun, family, friends and school.
The outputs from the day will feed into a local Community Action Plan which will be further developed and implemented by the Substance Misuse Port Pirie Local Drug Action Team to increase prevention factors to reduce alcohol and other drug harm among young people in the region.
