Event description

If you’re a pro photographer running your own business, chances are your focus is on clients, bookings, editing, and staying creatively inspired. But amid the hustle of working for yourself, one essential topic often gets left for ‘later’—planning for retirement.

This seminar is designed specifically for sole traders in the photography industry who want to take real steps toward securing their financial future. Whether you’re just starting out or have been operating your own business for years, it’s never too early—or too late—to think about how your working life today will support your lifestyle in the years to come.

Led by Andrew Boyer from Fortis Wealth Management, this session will provide a clear and practical overview of key retirement planning strategies tailored to creative professionals. Andrew understands the unique challenges sole traders and freelance creatives face: inconsistent income, irregular superannuation contributions, and the juggling act of managing both the creative and financial sides of your business. His goal is to cut through the noise and give you a grounded understanding of your options.

Topics covered will include:

  • Superannuation basics and beyond: What you need to know about contributing to your super when you're self-employed, the pros and cons of different types of funds, and how to make super work for you over the long term.

  • Managed investment options: An introduction to investment strategies beyond superannuation, including managed funds and other ways to grow your savings in line with your goals and risk tolerance.

  • Strategic financial planning: Key considerations photographers should keep in mind throughout their working lives—from setting aside income during busy periods, to creating flexible plans for leaner times, to understanding how your business structure can impact your retirement savings.

Importantly, this is not a sales session. There’s no product pitch. It’s about giving you the tools and knowledge to start thinking seriously about your financial future. You’ll walk away with a clearer understanding of where to begin, what questions to ask, and how to take control of your retirement planning—even if finances aren’t your favourite subject.

Whether retirement feels a long way off or is just around the corner, this seminar will give you the confidence to start planning with purpose.

Light refreshments will be provided, and there’ll be time for questions at the end. Bring a notebook and most of all, bring your curiosity about what’s possible when you plan ahead.

Pro Photography Members attend for Free (but you still need to get a ticket to attend by obtaining a Free Member Ticket).

Non-members: $65 per ticket.
