Plant dye and Creative stitch

Join Pippita Bennett as part of Sydney Craft Week, in a two-day botanical print dyeing and creative stitch workshop. Be inspired by spring in the beautiful Blue Mountains as part of Sydney craft week. You will experiment with the beauty and unpredictably of dyeing with eucalytpus leaves and garden plants as natural printing materials. Each participant will create a unique stitched artwork using their dyed piece and fabric from Pippita's curated, eco dyed and thrifted collection. Pippita believes there are no mistakes when it comes to art making. This class is a small class where participants can express their own creativity. It is suitable for experience levels.

What's provided:

• wool and linen fabric for dyeing

• curated collection of thrifted and plant dyed fabric for stitching

• thrifted and plant dyed embroidery thread

• sewing tools

• plant material

Please bring an apron and covered shoes. You may chose to bring your own sewing kit and small slips of fabric to add to your work but this is not essential.

Pippita Bennett lives and works on Dharug and Gundungurra Country in the Blue Mountains. She primarily works with fibre and is interested in responding to landscape and place. Using site specific plants to dye fabric as a base, she begins each artwork by drawing with a needle and thread, following the lines of a branch or a rock or a felt sense, until she feels connected to the landscape. 

Bring your own lunch. Coffee and tea available. Local cafes are a short 10 minute walk from the studio.
