Join me for a deep dive into this profound body of work by renowned master herbalist, earth poet, bardic naturalist, deep ecologist and prolific award-winning author of 25 books, the late Stephen Harrod Buhner. Stephen was a radical systems thinker, polymath and synthesiser whose work continues to have a deep and lasting impact on Plant People and Deep Ecologists all over the world.

I have read Plant Intelligence dozens of times (as well as most of his other books) and consider Stephen to be one of my primary teachers on the topics of Plant Medicine, Animist Living Earth Perception, Gaian Systems and Earth Sentience, Deep Ecology, and Eco-Soul Poetics. 

According to Stephen, 'Plant Intelligence and the Imaginal Realm' offers a "sophisticated theoretical foundation for contemplative animism." It provides an accessible philosophical framework combined with simple yet profound exercises to help us open our perception towards a living, breathing and dreaming earth. This will be my 8th time guiding this deep dive into his work.

Skye holds a space in this course that is quietly extraordinary. From the very beginning, I felt its integrity—not just in the tone or language, but in the underlying structure. This wasn’t a transfer of information. It was a living field of practice: relational, coherent and most of all,  transformative.

The depth and breadth of what was offered revealed an uncommon level of devotion. A vast body of materials—recordings, reflections, weekly practices, and beautifully distilled summaries—was assembled with care and clarity. But what made it powerful was not just the quality or the quantity—it was the coherence. The community that emerged was not incidental. It formed in response to the steadiness and care embedded in the course space. There was coherence without uniformity, intimacy without demand. The field invited connection that was real—reciprocal, grounded, and enduring. These relationships weren’t limited to the timeline of the course. They’re still unfolding —both human and more-than.  What became clear over time was how deliberately the space had been tended. Skye’s touch was never loud, but always present—in the pacing, in the tone, in the way the course held both structure and spaciousness. Her trust in the living world was built into the architecture itself.

Whether you’re new to this path or long immersed in it, the course meets you where you are—not by adjusting itself, but by remaining in right-relation to what’s real. It doesn’t flatten, or dramatize. It invites. I’m grateful to have participated, and I hope to again. What unfolded here continues to move in me—quietly, steadily, and in ways that deepen over time.
