Event description

We planted trees in 2022 at Millen Street, which you might have seen grow over the last few years if you drive along the Great Western Highway in Kingswood. No, we want to add some diversity to the ground layer! We'll be planting Fan flowers (Scaevola albida), Yellow Daisies (Calotis lappulacea) and Winter Apples (Eremophila debilis), which are loved by our native bees, butterflies, and bugs.

What’s the ground layer?

When we talk about the "ground layer", we're referring to the bottom layer of the soul you're planting into. This is where roots are encouraged to grow under the soil's surface.

Ground layer planting is important as it reduces weed growth, improves moisture retention in the soil, creates better soil structure, prevents erosion, and attracts wildlife — just to name a few things!

What can I expect?

  • Tools, training, and guidance on how to plant. No experience is required!
  • You can bring your own gloves, but we’ll provide them.
  • Delicious refreshments, tea, and coffee.

What do I need to bring?

  • Wear long pants and a long-sleeved shirt, sturdy closed-in shoes, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
  • A bottle of water.

Registrations

The event is open to everyone with and without Bushcare experience. Children must be supervised by an adult.
