Plant Trees for Salmon at Camp Creek
Event description
Date: Friday, March 14 (10:00 am - 3:00 pm)
Location: Camp Creek near Randle, WA
Description: In 2024, CFC worked with the US Forest Service to install hundreds of pieces of woody debris in Camp Creek, a tributary of the Cispus River. This woody debris is increasing the complexity of the stream which will create spawning habitat for coho salmon and steelhead as well as rearing habitat for juvenile Chinook salmon. Last fall, CFC volunteers planted willow along the restored section of Camp Creek. These trees will stabilize the banks, help cool water temperatures, and add nutrients to the stream.
We need your help to plant more trees at Camp Creek this spring. We will be planting a mix of live willow and cottonwood stakes and salvaged trees and shrubs to increase diversity. We will use loppers, hand pruners, and shovels to harvest our plants from nearby sites and then plant them in the restoration area.
Work Conditions: We will walk up to 0.25 miles across mostly flat but uneven terrain from our parking spot to the project site. Walking down short but steep slopes or over logs may be necessary in some areas. Using loppers and hand pruners to cut vegetation and shovels to dig will involve repetitive motion.
Gear: Please bring sturdy waterproof hiking boots or rubber boots, appropriate layers for the weather, and a day pack with enough food and water for the day.
CFC will provide gloves and tools. We also have rubber boots available to borrow. Your registration confirmation will include a complete gear list and information on how to borrow boots.
Transportation and Vehicle Access: Please contact us at trips@cascadeforest.org if transportation is a barrier to participation. We can arrange carpools if necessary. Our work site can be reached via paved roads and we will be able to park in a gravel parking area.
