FREE screening of The Plastic Country

Central Coast Council's Environmental Management and Waterways Education team is proud to present a free community screening of The Plastic Country.

Join us from 5:30pm on the theatre lawn to connect with local environmental organisations, explore interactive information stalls and learn how we can all help reduce plastic pollution in our waterways and marine environment.

🍕 Drinks and pizza will be available for purchase from the theatre candy bar.

🎬 At 7:00pm, head into the theatre for a screening of The Plastic Country, followed by a panel discussion and audience Q&A.

The evening will be hosted by award-winning environmental leader and CEO of Take 3 for the Sea, Tim Silverwood, with a panel of experts exploring the challenges and solutions surrounding plastic pollution.

This free event has been fully funded and organised by Central Coast Council as part of our ongoing commitment to protecting waterways, reducing litter and inspiring community action.

The new film from leading youth ocean champion Kal Glanznig (Rising Up) is an eye-opening investigation of the impact of plastic on our bodies and ecosystems.

Kal Glanznig is a former water polo athlete turned ocean advocate who grew up surfing the beaches of Cronulla. Health-conscious and deeply curious, he becomes increasingly concerned by emerging research into the human health impacts of plastic.

But it’s not until he joins a clean-up in East Arnhem Land, where Sea Shepherd and Dhimurru Rangers pull ghost nets and plastic packaging from sacred shores that his perspective is shattered.

Realising that Australia is now one of the world’s largest producers of plastic waste per person, Kal begins to question what this means not just for our environment, but for our bodies.

What follows is a journey across the country, from remote coastlines to wildlife hospitals and Parliament House, uncovering how plastic pollution is infiltrating ecosystems, politics, and human health.

The Plastic Country is both a warning and a rallying cry - revealing solutions already underway and showing how everyone can drive the change needed to turn the tide on plastics for good.
