Event description

Join DLC and retired geologist Tom Loucks to learn about the past and present of the geological theory of Plate Tectonics. From 400+ year-old speculations about how continents fit like puzzle pieces, to hypotheses of continental drift and sea-floor spreading, and finally how these theories united in the late 1960s to become our unifying theory of plate tectonics. As a student, Tom worked in Central America with some of the researchers using this new knowledge to study live volcanoes, and he will weave in his own photographs and experiences from several years of field work related to today's plate tectonics theory.

Please plan to arrive 10 minutes early to park and find the correct room.

DLC classes are offered free of charge, but a $10 per person donation is suggested so that we may continue to offer educational outreach classes in the community.
