Description
Part of Randwick City Council's Town Hall Takeover.
Join Play Club at Randwick Town Hall for the first public reading of An Accidental Antichrist, a razor-sharp new comedy by AJ Evans, directed by Margaret Thanos.
On a still autumn night, on the steps of an Australian icon, nobody knows it yet, but a storm is coming. When a seemingly trivial clash is caught on camera, a simple misunderstanding erupts into an all-out national dogfight, and a naïve young man is unwittingly anointed a national figurehead.
Blending pointed satire, twisted misfortune and pitch-black humour, An Accidental Antichrist takes a scalpel to Australia's media landscape. Drawing comparisons to the political wit of VEEP and the dark absurdity of FARGO, this provocative new work offers a hilarious and unsettling look at how narratives are shaped, amplified and weaponised.
This special Play Club reading features an outstanding cast including Simon Burke, Danielle Cormack, Andrea Demetriades, Faizal Hamza, Glenn Hazeldine, Alexandra Jensen, Rishab Kern, Brian Meegan, Damien Ryan, May Tran and Scarlett Waters, with Toby Blome as Adam Blanc.
Be among the first to experience this bold new Australian play in development. Whether you're a theatre lover, aspiring artist or simply curious about new work, Play Club offers a rare opportunity to hear exciting scripts brought to life by some of the country's leading performers.
Normally hosted at Belvoir St Theatre by Margaret Thanos and Jess Zlotnick, Play Club is heading to the Town Hall and will be serving up two low-fi but high energy readings of piping hot new Australian works.
Play Club takes over the Town Hall for the following two evenings;
Saturday 31 October, 7pm to 9pm
Thursday 28 January, 7pm to 9pm
