Description

Play with Clay

The daily practice of working with clay.

Play with Clay is a mindful, self-directed experience that invites you to explore, create, and connect without worrying about perfection or keeping your work.

It’s a chance to slow down, use your hands, and get creative side-by-side. Ideal for kids looking for a creative outlet, families wanting a low-key day out, or anyone craving a tactile pause in their day.

Please note this is not a class and not a guided workshop.

Instead, you’re invited to:

  • experiment

  • check out our ideas to help get things started

  • scrunch up and start again

Sip coffee and share in something playful and hands-on, whether you're catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet moment on your own. No experience needed, just curiosity and a willingness to get your hands dirty. Think of it like bowling… but with clay. Each kit can be shared with up to 4 people.

Play with Clay is designed to gently shift the focus from producing to experiencing. Leaving pieces in the Mini Play with Clay Gallery allows work to be shared, appreciated and enjoyed a little longer, without the need to take anything home.

Create without keeping. Play without pressure.

How it works

  • 1 ~ Book your session

All sessions are booked online via Humanitix. You’re welcome to drop in on the day or pre-book ahead.

  • 2 ~ Grab a kit

Pick up a clay kit from the open shelving outside our studio. Whilst you're there, grab a board to play with clay on and keep things tidy.

  • 3 ~ Play with Clay

Set yourself up within MOA & co or grab a picnic blanket and head to a sunny spot out the front.

  • 4 ~ Return your used kit

Once you’ve finished, pack everything back into the kit and place it on the Used Tools tray to be refreshed.

FAQs

  • What does "self-directed" mean?

Self-directed means you have the freedom to explore and paint at your own pace, without formal instruction. We provide all the tools, materials, and a brief guide, so you can let your creativity flow and enjoy the process independently.

  • What is Play with Clay?

Play with Clay is a self-directed, no-pressure clay experience where you can slow down, use your hands, and explore your creativity. It’s about dedicating time to play and experiment rather than producing a finished piece or taking something home. Think of it like bowling, but with clay.

  • Do I need to book in advance?

Sessions are booked online through Humanitix. You can pre-book your spot to guarantee access, or drop in during the session window if space is available.

  • Who is it suitable for?

Play with Clay is ideal for kids, families, friends, or solo visitors. It’s perfect for anyone looking to dedicate time to a tactile, hands-on experience without pressure.

  • How long can I stay?

You are welcome to arrive anytime during the session window and stay for as long as you like within the studio hours.

  • Can I keep what I make?

Pieces are made for the moment and are not fired or glazed. You can return your clay kit and leave your creation in the Mini Play with Clay Gallery to be enjoyed by others for a little longer.

  • What happens to the clay

Clay can be reworked again and again. It’s only once a piece is fired that it becomes permanent. During Play with Clay, used clay is left to dry and then reclaimed so it can be enjoyed in future sessions.
