Play with Fire: learn the art of fire dance - Burleigh Beach

Welcome to this unique event! Hosted by Selah, South Africa's top fire dancer, who is visiting Australia and so happy to share her expertise and passion with you :)

Ever wished you could be a Fire bender?

Now, you can experience the magic of playing with fire in the palm of your hands. The palm candles create a small hand-held flame that is very intuitive and safe. They are easy for absolutely anybody to play with - children and adults alike. In this workshop, we get the opportunity to journey into a deeper relationship with the element of Fire.

What to expect?

Together, we warm up the body and get into our groove with the palm candles. Selah gives her top tricks and tips from her wealth of dance and performance experience.

We create original fire with the bow drill - by the friction of soft wood on hard. This creates an ember that we blow into life.

We set our intentions and so, we are ready to light our handheld flames…we dance, we play, we manifest, we witness and we enjoy!

The evening ends with an intimate and inspiring fire show from Selah.

please note: this workshop is suitable for children (the youngest yet to attend was 4 years old) and children under 10 years to come with a guardian who is also participating.

About the facilitator:

With a rich and diverse background in the performance arts, Selah loves what she does. Dancing and performing since the age of 8, she has explored movement and embodiment as her life path. She saw fire dancing for the first time in 2011 and knew with every cell in her being that this was for her. Playing with Fire has given Selah the opportunity to perform all around South Africa, and internationally across Europe, Canada, Namibia, Mauritius, Seychelles and the Azores. 

Selah is passionate about embodiment; curious about the alchemical union of the physical and the unseen; inspired by nature; receptive to what is, and active in creating a joyful life. She carries within her art the intention of radiance, wholeness and healing, to bring together diversity through equality in a way that supports the co-evolution of this Earth and Humanity.
