Playful Creative - Term 1, 2025

PLAYFUL CREATIVE

Fancy a serving of social art-making topped with a dash of creative play as part of your Sunday Brunch? The Museum of Moving Art (MOMA) presents a unique community arts project that blends game-making and playing with story-telling, art making and art sharing. We provide an ND/Queer friendly space that welcomes allies, families and friends - all ages, genders, cultures and ethnicities are respected and encouraged to participate. Children should be accompanied by a responsible adult please.

Playful Creative is founded on the philosophies of 'art as a spiritual practice' and 'arts activism'. "You are never too young too be validated as an artist and never too old to claim this as your birthright", says Loretta Monetta, Chief Curator at MOMA.

You don't need any special skills or equipment to participate, just a willingness to playfully explore your own creativity. We provide materials for group activities. If you have skills and techniques that you are keen to share, go for it - the whole thing runs on skill sharing. You are welcome to propose group activites to add to the weekly program.

THE SPACE
The Newlands NECCHi Neighbourhood House is a welcoming airy light-filled space set in the parklands of Coburg North. The large activities room opens onto an enclosed garden and play area, and adjoins a fully functioning kitchen. We also have access to a lounge room if you feel the need for quiet time. The whole venue is wheelchair accessible.

PROGRAM FORMAT

• 9.30 am Setup (come early and help if you can)
• 10 am Making & Playing - There will be a guided group activity to join in, or if you'd prefer to do your own thing there'll be a range of activities to choose from. You are welcome to bring your own project if you like. Materials will be available but we appreciate contributions if you have stuff to share.
• 11 am Break for Brunch - please consider bringing a plate of food to share. Teas, coffee & biscuits provided.
• 11.30 am Get back into it! - keep going with what you started or try something new ;-)
• 1pm Pack-up & De-brief - please help pack up and also share any feedback you might have

COST

 Casual $5 per session. No one turned away for lack of funds :)

nb: There will be no session on Easter Sunday the 20th of April.
