    Event description

Join us for the Sydney premiere of Playing With Fire, the first full-length documentary of the F.I.R.E. movement, and a fireside chat after the show with Film Director Travis Shakespeare,  Dave from Strong Money Australia, Pat from Life Long Shuffle, Miss Balance from All About Balance and Serina from The Joyful Frugalista.

Produced and directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmakers and FI-chasers Scott Rieckens and Travis Shakespeare, Playing With Fire is a world-class film by the community for the community.

It doesn't matter whether you're just starting on your FI journey or you've already FIRE'd, if you get the acronyms this event is for you - come along and meet everyone!

    The important bits

    • Playing With Fire is premiering in Sydney, Australia on Wednesday, 14 August.
    • Venue is the Law Theatre at UNSW in Kensington.
    • Doors open from 6:00 pm.
    • Film starts at 6:45 pm.
    • Q&A session after the show.
    • General admission tickets are now on sale.
    • Pearler's portion of net proceeds for hosting this event is being donated to Kiva.

    Or, if you like detail...

    Venue and Tickets

The venue is UNSW's Law Theatre (G04). The closest entrance by car is Gate 2, and the closest entrance by foot is Anzac Parade (the main walkway). You can search for the venue on Google Maps by entering 'UNSW Law Building' and following the signs.

By choosing this venue (and not a movie theatre), we're ensuring more of your funds directly support Playing with Fire. It also gives us a little budget to spend on making this screening special. Thanks to UNSW for getting on board!

Early bird tickets have now sold out - thanks to all those who jumped on board before the venue and panel were announced!

General admission tickets are $25 and limited to 200.

    The Plan

Playing with FIRE is screening in Sydney on the 14th of August. The event will start at 6 pm and the official activities will finish at 9 pm.

After the screening, PWF Director Travis Shakespeare and 4 of Australia's most well-known FI names join us for a fireside chat-style Q&A session: Dave from Strong Money Australia, Pat from Life Long Shuffle, Miss Balance from All About Balance and Serina from The Joyful Frugalista.

There will be lots of knowledge both on the panel and in the audience, so make sure to bring your best FI questions along!

Having already seen the film (Pearler supported the Kickstarter), we are particularly excited by the film's potential to make FI more mainstream. We think it does a great job of explaining FI to 'non-numbers people' so please feel free to bring along partners, friends, and family even if they are not very familiar with FIRE.

We're really looking forward to this FI community event and can't wait to see everyone there :)

    Giving Back

Pearler's portion of net proceeds for hosting this event is being donated to Kiva, an impact-investing non-profit that is focused on helping the 1.7b unbanked people in the world access financial services.

The rest of the net proceeds will be used to support and distribute the Playing with FIRE movie so more and more people can see it, and it can spread (like FIRE!...)

Also, a note on Humanitix - it's the world's first not-for-profit ticketing platform. 100% of its profits from bookings fees go to projects that address the education gaps affecting the most disadvantaged children here in Australia and overseas.
