Avoiding Miscommunication Using Cognate Pairs - Part 1: PLOSIVES with Coach Isabella

This event has passed Get tickets

    Event description

Have you ever said a word but people think you are saying something completely different? This is a very common struggle for foreign speakers and oftentimes, this is caused by confusion between cognate pairs.

A "cognate pair" is what we call two consonants with similar sounds that are differentiated by being voiced or unvoiced. This can be tricky for foreign speakers because the sounds are so alike and yet, to native speakers they sound completely different!

During this encouraging workshop, Coach Isabella will be diving back into the plosives to teach the difference between voiced and unvoiced plosives (B/P, D/T, J/CH, C/G). Participants will learn how to differentiate these sounds and work one-on-one with her to master this distinction in a friendly and supportive environment.
