Learn to write a short story with easy language
Join Casey Gray for this 2-hour Plot Play workshop online.
Learn how to write fun and easy to read stories using easy language writing styles like Easy Read.
Easy Read is a way of writing that makes words simple and clear so everyone can enjoy them.
We will learn about:
Easy language formats with a focus on Easy Read.
How to plot a short story.
Where to get your pictures.
How to create your own pictures.
There will be quick and easy creative thinking exercises.
You will get resources on how to publish your work.
Who is this workshop for?
Adults with intellectual disability who want to write stories.
Easy Read writers/translators who want to learn how to use Easy Read for fictional storytelling.
Any writer’s interested in learning to write for children and adults with intellectual disability.
No writing experience is needed. You can bring a support person / story helper to participate in activities.
This will be a relaxed event. We will have a short break after 40 minutes.
Why join?
By the end of this workshop you will have the outline of your own short story that focuses on making it accessible to adults with intellectual disability. You will also have helpful writing tips to help you keep going!
You will be encouraged to enter your story into the International Easy Language Creative Writing Competition, winners announced on December 3rd 2025.
