Poet in the House (1 December) Poetic Form
Event description
Poetic form
   ~ Shall I compare theeÂ
     to a villanelle? Thou artÂ
     petite, sweet haiku
Curious about the difference between a haiku and haibun? A sonnet and a villanelle? By popular demand, this Masterclass will explore poetic form through a series of guidelines, examples and hands-on writing exercises. Learn the rules, then have some fun breaking them!Â
Part 1: The Masterclass
In this Poetry Masterclass + Workshop, award-winning poet Paris Rosemont will teach you some of the rules of poetic form. Test out some new forms and see where they may lead your creative process. Armed with this knowledge, you decide whether you'd like to colour neatly within the lines, or outside these conventions. Either way, you'll have the tools of poetic form in your artillery kit, ready to deploy whenever you might wish to use them.
Part 2: The Workshop
Bring along a poem you've written. During the final hour of this session, we will workshop your poetry in a kind and constructive way. Paris will facilitate discussions to try to help you identify possible blind spots in your work in order to strengthen and polish your poetry so that it sparkles!
This Poet in the House Masterclass + Workshop has been made possible through the generous support of a Randwick City Council Community Creative Grant. Thank you!
