Poetry in the House with Eloy Rios and Momma.Nyabbo

Price $5 – $15 USD Get tickets

Event description

Join us for an evening of poetry, music and art with Eloy Rios and Momma.nyabbo.

Mainly free verse, Eloy has been told by many that there is a lyricism/musicality to their poems. They consider their largest poetic influences to be Charles Bukowski, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, and Rilke. Their favorite genre of music is Jazz and the Blues. A handful of writers - from Kerouac to Ginsberg - have influenced them as well. “Eloy Rios” is a new pen name - an idea they borrowed from Kierkegaard, a favorite philosopher.

Eloy will have their artwork on display throughout the evening. And they will be joined by Momma.Nyabbo for a musical performance all their own.

Please let us know if you’re planning to join us! We’re offering a sliding scale ($5-15) to make this event as accessible as possible. Thank you, and see you on the 5th.

About Josh

'momma.nyabbo!' is an experimental rapper/storyteller based in Brooklyn, NY! In Luguanda (the official language of his home country, Ugunda) this phrase translates to 'Oh My God!'. Through his work, his only goal is to communicate deep feelings, hopefully leading his listeners to exclaim that exact phrase.

About Eloy

Eloy Rios is a poet-philosopher who has operated under many different pseudonyms. They view their artistry as striving toward some higher power. In devotion, pursuit, or spite; it depends on the day. What that identifiable (at least in his array of inexplicable experiences) higher power is, is a question he can't come to decide. They studied philosophy at an academic level and in personal pursuits. For many years he operated under the belief that empathy is the highest good. They have now come to understand that education and deepening the faith of others takes precedence over his neo-beat perspective; to be empathetic towards all things, people, and moments (though this is something he still very much prioritizes).

This event is to launch the beginning of promoting his first poetry collection titled, "False Profit". A short autobiographical meditative essay accompanied by twenty seven poems. He is passionate about social justice. He resists conformity when it comes at the expense of others or actualization. All these characteristics pour into his work in an experimental expression of longing to belong and navigating the complications of identity in this hyper individualized and informed age. They describe their style of poetry as a sensual existential crisis. Others have associated him as an angsty transcendentalist.

Eloy is a proud Uruguyan-American and Ossining local. He has performed his poetry all throughout NYC, but never in his hometown. It only feels right for him to return home to give a reading from his first collection. He is sitting on many projects and intends to use the money generated from this project to publish a long discography of work.
