Inspire Your Inner Poet: Exclusive Masterclasses with Isla Huia, Poet in Residence at City Library

We are pleased to continue our collaboration with our sister city, Christchurch, as we welcome poet and author Isla Huia to the Adelaide City Library.
Isla (Te Āti Haunui a-Pāpārangi, Uenuku) is a te reo Māori teacher and kaituhi from Ōtautahi. She will visit Adelaide in April to headline the Context Writers Festival as part of an Adelaide-Christchurch Sister City Exchange.
Following her Festival appearance, Isla will take up a Residency at the City Library, where she will lead masterclasses designed for poets at all stages of their creative journey. These sessions are focussed on inspiring creativity, building confidence and skill development in the art of writing poetry.

Isla Huia has been published in journals such as Catalyst, Takahē, PŪHIA and Awa Wāhine, and she has performed at numerous events, competitions and festivals around Aotearoa. Her debut collection of poetry, Talia, was released in May 2023 by Dead Bird Books, and was shortlisted for the Mary and Peter Biggs Award for Poetry at the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards 2024. Her work has also been featured in the International Institute of Modern Letters’ Ōrongohau Best New Zealand Poems, in 2023 and 2024.
