Poetry Month Workshop: Simon Armitage
Event description
Join UK Poet Laureate Simon Armitage online for this workshop to kick off Poetry Month 2024 In Simon’s own words ‘for beginners or experienced poets alike, we will follow the transition of a poem, from those initial marks on a blank piece of paper (or the blinking cursor on a screen) to its finished form. If it's difficult to look at an empty page and know how to improve it, as someone once said, in this class we'll devise strategies for generating material and follow the construction of a poem through to its end game, when small amendments, additions and subtractions can make a world of difference. Oh, and we'll look at what goes on in the middle as well. Bring something to write with and something to write on and an open mind.’
Simon Armitage is the UK Poet Laureate and former Oxford Professor of Poetry. He has published nine full length collections as well as best-selling memoirs, travel books and translations. His numerous prizes include the Ivor Novello Award for songwriting.
