About Poets@Stones
Curated by renowned Queensland poet, Brett (B. R.) Dionysius, Poets@Stones is held on the last Thursday of each month, from January through to November.
Our featured Poets for this month are Victoria Bladen, Mitch Cave and Marzena Pressence.
Dr Victoria Bladen is Lecturer in English Literature at the University of Queensland. She has published on Shakespeare on screen, early modern poetry and ecocriticism, including her monograph ‘The Tree of Life and Arboreal Aesthetics in Early Modern Literature’ (Routledge, 2022). Victoria’s creative practice comprises poetry, painting and book arts. Her poetry manuscript ‘Paper Seeds’ was shortlisted for the 2024 Thomas Shapcott Prize, and she is currently working on an artist’s book ‘Depths in Metres’ inspired by ‘The Tempest’ and made from old maps.
Mitch Cave is a second generation Australian-Ukrainian writer based in Caloundra, Queensland (Kabi Kabi land). His work has appeared in various literary magazines nationally, as well as in the USA & UK. In 2022, his debut poetry collection, ‘How to Eat Fire and Why’, was published through the Rabbit Poets Series, and an earlier version of the manuscript was a finalist for the Subbed In Chapbook Prize. Mitch was also highly commended in last year’s Venie Holmgren Environmental Poetry Prize, and is currently working on his second full-length poetry collection, a short story collection, and a novel.
Marzena Pressence holds a Master of Business Engineering degree and worked in sourcing in Europe and Australia before becoming a mum. Stepping into motherhood served for Marzena as initiation to understanding her creative potential. The process of self-inquiry and inner healing led Marzena to become Yoga Teacher, Reiki Practitioner and Women’s Embodiment Psychotherapy Coach, and also opened her into the unexpected creative power of writing poetry. In 2024 Marzena published her debut poetry book ‘When She Rises’. Marzena’s chakra poems can be found in Salvatore Battaglia’s book ‘Aromatherapy and Chakras’.
