Poets@Stones: Queensland's boutique poetry series - live readings by local poets

The next in our series of curated poetry events is on Thursday 27 March, 6.30 - 7:30pm.

About Poets@Stones

Curated by renowned Queensland poet, Brett (B. R.) Dionysius, Poets@Stones is held on the last Thursday of each month, from January through to November, and features readings from three local poets.

Our featured Poets this month:

Geoff Cartwright began his professional life as an actor in Brisbane in the late '70s, working for the Qld Theatre Co. and the TN Company, before moving south to work in Sydney and regional theatres. He was artistic director of the community company, The Rough Hewn Theatre Troupe for ten years, is an award winning narrator of audio books, and was a teacher of Drama and English. He has a postgraduate degree in creative writing from the University of Sydney, writes poetry but has a preference for prose fiction, is a prolific letter writer and a passionate lover of riding-his-motorcycle-a-long-way, having ridden much of the USA and all around Australia.

Michelle Taylor
writes for children, young adults and the young at heart! She has published seven books of poetry including 100 Ways To Fly and If The World Belonged To Dogs - for children, the young adult verse novel, The Angel Of Barbican High, and First Language. She enjoys taking poetry to new audiences and using it to support wellbeing and confidence. Michelle is a mum and an occupational therapist and reckons being a poet makes her braver and more creative in all the other jobs she does!

B. R. Dionysius
was founding Director of the Queensland Poetry Festival. He has published five collections of poetry, two chapbooks, an artist’s book and a verse novel. His ninth collection, Critical State was published in September 2022. He was short-listed in the 2013 and 2017 Montreal International Poetry Prize, teaches English & Literature, lives in Brisbane and in his spare time watches birds. In 2023 he was awarded a Queensland Writers’ Fellowship from Arts Queensland and the Queensland Writers’ Centre. His tenth poetry collection, The Eromanga Sea (Calanthe Press) and his eleventh collection, Extinction Sonnets (Walleah Press) are forthcoming in 2025/26.
