This month's poets@stones reading features three poets - Dr David Reiter, Brent Cantwell and Dusan Bojic.
Dr David Reiter is an award-winning text and digital artist, and Publisher / CEO of IP (Interactive Publications Pty Ltd). His most recent works are the multimedia verse play Tchaikovsky (Almost) in Love, the picture book DIScombolulation (Book 2 of the Sir Humphrey & Woody picture book Series), the novel Black Books Publishing, and the digital narrative Time Lords Remixed: a Dr Who Poetical. He’s won the Western Australian Premier’s Award twice, and the Queensland Premier’s Award. He gives talks on all aspects of independent publishing and is the author of Your eBook Survival Kit, now in its 4th edition.
Brent Cantwell was born in Timaru, South Canterbury on the East Coast of New Zealand’s South Island. He received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Canterbury in 1995 majoring in English Literature and History. In the 2010s, Brent published poetry in a range of New Zealand and Australian literary journals including Australian Poetry Journal, Poetry NZ, Landfall, Takahe and Westerly. Then, in October 2023 his debut collection of poetry tether was published by Recent Work Press.
tether begins in his hometown Timaru, on the East Coast of New Zealand’s South Island. The name derives from the Māori phrase te-tihi-o-maru meaning ‘a place of shelter’. It’s a place of shipwrecks and cabbage trees, smoky hotels and volcanic shores. tether takes its first inspiration from this shaken landscape, exploring the fault lines that rumble between friends and family as they move and migrate, as they tether vast distances small. Whether it’s Timaru, or Turnpike Lane, or Tamborine Mountain, at its heart lies a possibility: a connection to place, to the past and to each other. Each poem is a ‘place of shelter’.
Dusan Bojic is, and at one time has been, a poet, designer, visual, performance, and installation artist, writer, critic, videographer, choreographer, and playwright. Over the last 45 years he has navigated audiences through visual and experimental poetics and guided them through different definitions and forms of poetry and enabled them to have a finger on the pulse of their own creativity. He believes that our ears should be trampolines between which words can bounce and is committed to cross-pollinating different spectrums of creativity. He also likes standing in the one spot and seeing twelve horizons at the same time.
