Politics in the Pub: Equal Pay Day 2024

Event description

On Monday 19 August, we hit a crucial milestone - Equal Pay Day, a powerful reminder of the 50 extra days that Australian women must work to earn the same on average as men did last year. With the national gender pay gap sitting at 12%, WA is far behind, at a whopping 21.7%.

This year’s theme It Doesn’t Add Up is a call for action to improve women’s economic equality.

Join us for an engaging Politics in the Pub event, hosted in partnership with WACOSS, the Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing and UWA Public Policy Institute. Deep dive into the factos driving the gender pay gap and explore actionable solutions.

This panel event will be hosted by Dr Jennie Gray, CEO, Women’s Legal Service, and will include:

  • Professor Alison Preston - Australian economist, Winthrop Professor of Economics at the University of Western Australia.
  • Jessica Murray – Manager, Gender Equity & Women’s Health at the Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing
  • Lisa Judge - Public Sector Coordinator, United Workers Union
  • Professor Alan Duncan - Director, Bankwest Curtin Economic Centre
