Exploring Compassionate Communication in Palliative Care                        

Time:               Communication: 9.00am – 12.30pm | Loss and Grief: 1.00pm – 4.30pm

Aim

Acquire knowledge, skills and confidence in having meaningful but often difficult conversations about terminal illness, palliative care and grief with people living with a life-limiting illness, and their families.

Topics covered include:

  • Brief overview of the palliative approach to care
  • Introduction to compassionate communication skills
  • Case-based experiential learning (facilitated communication skills practice)

Exploring Loss and Grief in Palliative Care                

Aim

Acquire knowledge, skills and confidence in understanding loss and grief, including the role of health care providers in supporting grieving individuals and families both before and after death.

Topics covered include:

  • Introduction to loss and grief and the impact on patients and families
  • Overview of differing ideas and models of grief
  • Introduction to supporting grieving individuals within the palliative care context

Facilitator:

Kerrie Cunningham - Kerrie has been working in palliative care and providing education for over 20 years, across a variety of settings, including rural remote Australia and metropolitan Melbourne. Kerrie is dedicated to helping enhance and enrich health professionals understanding of palliative care, which in turn leads to improved patient and family outcomes.

If you have registered and find you are unable to attend, please advise us as soon as possible, as these workshops are in high demand and we can offer your place to another participant.
