About The Artist.

Poranguí

Poranguí is a world soul artist, live looping musician, and a one-man orchestra whose unique background and ethnomusicology training at Duke University have shaped his distinctive sound. Raised in Brazil, Mexico, and the U.S, he has spent over twenty years as an artist, musician, educator, filmmaker, consultant, and therapist, utilizing the healing properties of sound and movement to promote individual and collective well-being.

Poranguí's performances are an exploration of indigenous rhythms and ancestral songs from around the world. From deep, earthy didgeridoo grooves to high-vibe Brazilian beats to African kalimba lullabies, he creates his music from scratch using looping technology, taking his audience on a sonic journey that transcends cultural & stylistic boundaries.

With an impressive list of collaborations, Poranguí has worked with artists like Rising Appalachia, Desert Dwellers, Dirtwire, Shaman’s Dream, Liquid Bloom, Ayla Nereo, and many more. He has also performed at numerous festivals and events internationally such as TEDx, SXSW, Ozora and Boom Fest, to name a few.

Poranguí's creative output extends far beyond his live looping performances. As a sound designer and media producer, he has collaborated with renowned director Mitch Schultz (D.M.T. Spirit Molecule) on the soundtrack for the groundbreaking documentary "Ayahuasca," which marked his debut solo album in 2016. Since then, he has been a prolific artist, consistently releasing innovative and boundary-pushing work. He followed up with a remix album of the Ayahuasca Soundtrack on Desert Trax, and in 2019, he released a self-titled live album that was met with critical acclaim. Poranguí's work also includes a four-album series of music for psychedelic-assisted therapy made in collaboration with Liquid Bloom called Kuya Sessions. Most recently, in 2023, he released a new solo album entitled "Beauty Way".

For Poranguí, his work is more than just a profession; it is a calling that drives him to explore new ways of telling the stories of our ancestors and augmenting the voice of PachaMama in ways that resonate with our contemporary culture. His music is more than just entertainment; it is a means of transcending the boundaries of language and culture to unite people through shared experience. Whether he is performing at world-renowned festivals or leading workshops and ceremonies, Poranguí's mission remains the same: to inspire and uplift others through the healing power of sound and movement. Through his work, he seeks to promote a greater sense of empathy and understanding between people of all backgrounds, fostering a sense of community and connection that is sorely needed in our rapidly changing world.

Stephanie Hoffman MS, PT

As a physical therapist, Stephanie has extensive experience in the field of Sports Medicine and Orthopedics. Currently, she has a private practice in La Jolla Shores, California. Over thirty-five years in medicine has inspired her to educate others with new and alternative ways of looking at disease and injury, primarily with tolerance, compassion and understanding.

Getting in the ocean has provided a path of healing to many of my experiences.

While taking numerous patients out to the ocean as therapy, it became apparent that saltwater could be an alternative to medication as a form of pain relief and restoring the human spirit. Hence the birth of the film Saltwater Rx.

This is Stephanie’s first film production. She is honored to work together with her son, Brett Hoffman, with his film making expertise.
