Musically, we’ll be sharing international touring artists alongside Vivid Sydney & Rising Melbourne, as well as curating a stunning program of Australian music, coming to town especially for Porch & Recreation. Set for two nights in its inaugural year, Porch & Recreation promises to become an annual fixture as a winter festival, continuing to grow in size, program and energy in years to come. A weekend of music discovery and a celebration of all things good, Porch & Recreation promises to deliver the two-day affair of your contemporary music dreams.

Porch & Recreation promises a complete transformation of the stunning 1950’s ballroom located in the city's east highlighting the breathtaking art deco infrastructure sitting quietly in this beautiful building.  In between some of the best contemporary music this city has seen in a hot minute, we'll be bringing together a pop up record shop, vinyl DJs, a local bar and a curated local food offering of the highest quality.

MOUNT KIMBIE (DJ SET) - UK

Mount Kimbie just keep evolving; they can’t do anything else. The UK duo, Dom and Kai, started out as young stars of the London electronic underground, turning the breakout success of a pair of EPs into a lasting album statement, 2010’s Crooks & Lovers. Next came the critically acclaimed dancefloor driven sophomore album Cold Spring Fault Less Youth, followed by 2017’s celebrated Love What Survives, which explored krautrock and post-punk influences while featuring long-time collaborators James Blake, Mica Levi, and King Krule.

Their live DJ sets are an electric creation of textures and movement, an infectious capture of energy and skill. For the first time in Australia in 10 years ago, this is not a set to miss.

SURPRISE CHEF - Naarm

No strangers to a Porch Records show, Naarms’s own Surprise Chef bring their slinky soul, cinematic grooves and the adventurous sound of their new album Superb to the Burnside Ballroom this winter. One of the hottest bands on Melbourne’s buzzy funk scene, Coburg quintet Surprise Chef have attracted a cult-like following with their tasty cocktail of funk, jazz, hip-hop samples and deep grooves – not to mention their hypnotic live sets, which draw audiences into their electrifying, immersive sonic landscape.

Formed in 2017, Surprise Chef made a name for themselves with a string of collectible 45s, their vividly cinematic debut All News is Good News (2020) and the supremely groovy Daylight Savings (2022), which saw them snapped up by taste-making Brooklyn label Big Crown Records, praised by the likes of Questlove and Jurassic 5's DJ Nu-Mark, and sampled on a collaboration between 88 Rising's Rich Brian and the Wu-Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah. The band set to work on their third album Superb, a funky, experimental adventure that draws on the cinematic soul of David Axelrod and the grooves of Timbaland and The Neptunes. From the psychedelic opener Sleep Dreams to the pounding single Bully Ball and the experimentation of Body Slam and Fare Evader, it’s an album that proves these instrumental juggernauts are among the most exciting, irresistible funk acts in the game.

Porch Records is a record store as well as a home for the nicest live shows, nestled in the heart of their creative space & coffee shop, Summertown Studio, down in sunny Somerton Park. A beautifully curated vinyl selection of unique new records spanning Jazz, Funk, Soul, Hip Hop & International Groove music from across the globe. These cats also put on the most wonderful live shows, at the venue and at unique spaces around Adelaide, a handful of expertly curated nights of world class music featuring international, national and local musicians. Above all else, Porch Records are complete and utter music lovers, devoting their lives to the art form and the people who create it. Come be a part of the magic.
