Description

Turn Your Work Into Something People Can Understand and Book

A three-hour class on editing your portfolio, refining your website, planning your Instagram, building promotional material and improving client outreach.

Most photographers think the problem is that they need more work.

Sometimes they do.

But often, the bigger issue is that the work they already have is not being presented clearly enough.

Your website, Instagram, PDF portfolio, email pitch and general online presence are all saying something before you ever speak to a client, agency, model, brand or creative director. If that message is scattered, confusing or too broad, people will not know what to book you for.

This workshop is about fixing that.

In Portfolio Review, Oliver Minnett will walk through how to think about your body of work as something that needs to be edited, structured and communicated properly. We will look at what should go on your website, what should stay off it, how to plan your Instagram with more intention, how to build simple promotional material, and how to approach clients without sounding vague, desperate or generic.

This is not about pretending your portfolio needs to be perfect.

It is about making it clearer.

Photographers often hold onto images because they like them, because the shoot was hard, because the subject was impressive, or because they feel emotionally attached to the work. That is normal, but it does not always help the portfolio. The question is not just whether an image is good. The question is whether it belongs.

A major focus will be on understanding what your portfolio is actually communicating. Are you showing the work you want to be hired for, or just everything you have done? Is your Instagram helping people understand your direction, or is it making your work feel random? Does your website make it easy for someone to trust you, contact you and understand what you do?

Oliver will also organise a small number of expert guests where possible, with the aim of bringing in additional perspectives across creative direction, marketing, client outreach, branding or commercial photography.

The goal is to help you walk away with a clearer sense of what to show, what to remove, what to build next, and how to present yourself more professionally.

What you’ll work through

What should go on your website
How to choose the images that represent your strongest work, your direction and the kind of jobs you want to attract.

What should stay off your website
Why good images can still weaken a portfolio if they confuse the message, feel off-brand, or do not support the work you want more of.

How to edit your portfolio properly
How to think about sequencing, consistency, visual rhythm, categories, project pages and what each image is doing.

How to plan your Instagram
How to use Instagram without just feeding the algorithm, and how to make your page support your wider positioning as a photographer.

How to stop showing everything
Why restraint matters, and how releasing less can make the work you do show feel stronger.

How to build promotional material
What should go into a simple PDF portfolio, intro deck, email pitch or client-facing document.

How to approach clients
How to write outreach that feels clear, useful and specific rather than vague, cold or overly self-promotional.

How to make your work easier to understand
How to help clients, agencies, brands and collaborators quickly understand what you do, why it matters and where you fit.

How to identify what is missing
How to look at your portfolio and figure out what shoots, images or projects you need to create next.

Who it’s for

This workshop is for photographers who have work, but are not sure if they are presenting it properly.

It is useful for portrait, fashion, swimwear, editorial, lifestyle, music, artist, personal branding, campaign and commercial photographers who want their portfolio, website and social media to feel more intentional.

Beginners will learn how to start building a clearer public presence before their work becomes too scattered.

More experienced photographers will get a sharper way to assess what their current portfolio is saying, where it is too broad, and what needs to change if they want to attract better clients or collaborators.

If your website feels unfinished, your Instagram feels random, your portfolio is hard to edit, or your client outreach is not getting replies, this workshop is for you.

What you’ll walk away with

You will leave with a clearer understanding of how to present your work across your website, Instagram, promotional material and outreach.

You will also have a practical way to assess what belongs in your portfolio, what needs to be removed, and what kind of work you need to create next.

The point is not to make you look bigger than you are.

It is to make your work easier to understand, easier to trust, and easier to book.

FAQs

  • Is this workshop only for professional photographers?

No. This workshop is for photographers who are starting to think seriously about paid work, whether you are already shooting small jobs, quoting your first clients, or trying to understand how portfolio work turns into commercial work.

You do not need to be a full-time photographer. You just need to be ready to think beyond making a nice image and start understanding what a client actually needs from a shoot.

  • Do I need campaign experience to attend?

    No campaign experience is needed.

The point of the session is to make the process clearer before you are thrown into it. We’ll look at how briefs work, what clients expect, how shot lists are built, how usage and deliverables change the job, and what questions you should be asking before you say yes.

  • Is this a technical lighting workshop?

    Not primarily.

There will be a live shoot component, and we will talk about how lighting, tethering and workflow matter once someone is paying for the work, but this is not a gear demo or a pure lighting class.

The focus is the commercial process: brief, client, creative direction, production, delivery and how to make images that are useful, not just beautiful.

  • Will we be shooting during the workshop?

This is not a portfolio-building shoot where every attendee shoots their own images.

The practical part is built around a live brief. You’ll see the brief, watch how I respond to it, and hear the panel call out what is working, what is missing, and what would need fixing before the work went to a real client.

The value is in seeing the decision-making happen in real time.

  • Is this relevant if I shoot weddings, events or portraits?

Yes, if you are interested in moving toward brand, content, commercial or campaign-style work.

Even if your current work is weddings, portraits, events or personal projects, the skills are useful: reading a brief, managing expectations, building a shot list, understanding deliverables, communicating clearly and making work that solves a problem.

  • Will this help me with quoting and usage?

    Yes.

We will talk about quoting, usage, deliverables and expectations, especially at the level where many photographers first get stuck: smaller commercial jobs, lean teams, vague briefs and first proper clients.

This will not be a legal masterclass, but it will give you a much clearer framework for what to ask, what to clarify and what changes when images are being used commercially.

  • Is this just about big campaigns?

    No.

Most photographers do not start with huge agency campaigns. They start with smaller jobs: local brands, fashion labels, hospitality clients, content shoots, simple campaigns, social assets and small business briefs.

This session is designed around that reality. The goal is to help you understand the process early, so you can step into those jobs with more confidence and fewer surprises.

  • What will I leave with?

You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of how commercial shoots actually work from brief to delivery, what clients look for when hiring photographers, and how to approach your next paid job with more structure.

Every attendee will also receive a one-page brief-to-delivery checklist after the session, designed to help you plan, quote and deliver your next small campaign or commercial shoot with more confidence.
