Portrait Exchange #12 (March ‘25)

March’s Portrait Exchange is returning to El Faro Gallery at 79 King Street, Newtown.

Portrait Exchange is a monthly portrait drawing night where you create and receive artwork. Sitting opposite someone—a familiar face or someone you meet on the night—you will each draw each other’s portrait, gifting the artwork to the sitter.

Bring along someone you want to draw: a best friend, a grandparent, a flatmate, a neighbour, a first date, someone you would like to get to know better… or you can decide to draw —whilst being drawn by— a stranger

Everyone is Welcome!

Portrait Exchange attracts a diverse crowd, from practicing artists to those who haven’t drawn since primary school. The drawing is semi-guided but expression and experimentation is prioritised: feel free to ask for as much (or as little) advice as you require. The event is facilitated by local artist Jaslyn Brown who will assist with drawing technique or any questions you may have.

Drawing reciprocal portraits is a unique experience and study in perception where everyone leaves more connected —and with a piece (or likely many pieces) of art made for them!
