Postpartum Prep Class
Description
Postpartum Preparation Class
Preparing for Life After Birth
Most birth education classes focus on labour, birth, and the arrival of your baby. But what happens after birth is just as important.
Joining forces, Lactation Consultant and Registered Nurse/Midwife Natalie from Milk and Mums Co. alongside Doula and founder of Mamamour, Ysaline, have put together the ultimate one stop shop class to help you think through and plan for your postpartum period.
Our Postpartum Prep Class is designed to help expectant parents navigate the often-overlooked fourth trimester—the weeks and months following birth when recovery, feeding, adjustment, and family life begin. This practical and evidence-based class provides the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to support a smoother transition into parenthood.
What we will cover:
Breastfeeding and newborn feeding – Understanding feeding cues, establishing breastfeeding, feeding positions, practical feeding tricks and what to expect in the first days and weeks after birth.
Normal newborn behaviour and sleep – Learning what is biologically normal for babies, understanding sleep patterns, and managing expectations around sleep deprivation.
Physical recovery after birth – Supporting your healing, understanding postpartum changes, and caring for your pelvic floor and body after birth.
Emotional wellbeing and matrescence – Navigating the emotional transition to parenthood, recognising common challenges, and prioritising mental wellbeing.
Postpartum nutrition and self-care – Simple strategies for nourishing yourself, meal preparation, and maintaining your wellbeing during the early weeks.
Building your village – Creating a practical postpartum plan, developing a support network, and knowing when and how to ask for help.
Supporting the whole family – Meaningful ways partners and support people can support feeding, recovery, and family adjustment.
Why is this class essential?
While birth preparation classes help you prepare for the day your baby arrives, postpartum preparation helps you prepare for everything that comes next. Many parents spend months planning for labour but receive little education about recovery, feeding challenges, sleep deprivation, relationship changes, and the emotional adjustment to becoming a parent. We hear as professionals in this area many parents repeating the expression, "No one told me postpartum would look like..." and saying how little they thought about their postpartum period as they were more concerned with planning their birth experience - your postpartum experience is just as important as your birth experience!
Taking a Postpartum Preparation Class alongside or after a Birth Preparation Class provides a complete picture of the parenting journey. Research consistently shows that parents who feel informed and supported during the postpartum period experience greater confidence, improved feeding outcomes, and a smoother transition to family life.
Birth is one day. The postpartum period is where your parenting journey truly begins. This class ensures you are just as prepared for life after birth as you are for birth itself.
