Pottery Making Class

Join us at Mangawhai Artist Gallery 45 Moir Street in beautiful Mangawhai Village for a delightful Pottery Hand building Workshop led by the talented local potter, Lael Read. 

Embrace your creativity as you roll up your sleeves and dive into the wonderful world of clay. 

Pottery Hand building Workshop

In this class I will take you through the basics of hand building. We will focus on one main piece and with your left over clay you can make whatever you like with my guidance.

• Make as many pieces as you like within the class time and the 1kg of clay provided. 
• Everything is supplied, just bring your own apron or wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. 
• This is a 3 hour class.
• You can expect to pick up your piece after 5 weeks! I will send out an email when they are ready.

Hand building offers amazing flexibility, and you can sculpt almost anything.

Here what we will focus on: 

• Coffee mug/Tumbler
• Vase
• Trinket dishes 

What is included:

• 1kg of white stoneware clay
• Tools to be shared
• Firing & glazing your pieces 

Please be aware that that due to the nature of pottery sometimes your work may not make it through the firings and glaze process. I take as much care as possible to teach you the methods to avoid this happening and I dry your work very slowly. Cracks unfortunately are a part of the craft.
