Pounamu Workshop
Event description
We are excited to offer the Selwyn youth an opportunity to work with Tūhono Taonga, Tūhono Tāngata to create individual pieces of Pounamu.
We will guide you through the kaupapa and create your very own taonga as a gift to yourself or someone else.
Pounamu can help with many things including depression and anxiety. It is also helpful with creating a positive atmosphere with its energy - Mauri - bringing positive affects on the individual wearer. But more importantly it is a reminder of our place in the world, a unique creation made from a piece of Aotearoa, New Zealand.
This is wānanga will run for 4 hours, so please arrive at 10am to allow plenty of time to complete your mahi - there will be help available to complete the pieces on the day as needed.
Please note: Appropriate clothing is advised due to working with water, sanding/polishing and, if you wish to try out carving on the truck, spinning machinery. Health and safety conditions will apply.
