Powderfinger performed by Housemate Of Mine

Powderfinger — one of Australia's greatest rock bands and the soundtrack to more than one generation. Nearly 17 years after calling it a day, their songs still hit just as hard. Ask anyone from teenagers to lifelong fans and they'll either know who Powderfinger are, or they'll know every word to every song.

For Cooran local and Housemate Of Mine frontman Ian Gribbin, it's definitely the latter.

Ian first discovered Powderfinger in 2000 through Odyssey Number Five, before diving headfirst into Internationalist and Double Allergic. By the time Vulture Street landed when he was 15 years old, Powderfinger had become the soundtrack to his teenage years and an obsession that never really left.

Like countless Australian musicians, Ian was inspired by the songwriting, sound and stage presence of Bernard Fanning. In 2008, he and best mate Tyler Saunders started their first band, heavily influenced by Powderfinger and the music they loved. After years of playing pubs, parties and anywhere that would have them, Ian eventually formed Melbourne-based outfit Housemate Of Mine in 2018, releasing their debut album Flogging A Dead Horse the following year.

Now, 26 years after first dropping the needle on Odyssey Number Five, Ian is bringing his favourite Powderfinger tracks home to Cooran for one big night celebrating the music that helped shape his life.

Joining him on stage will be fellow Housemate Of Mine members Lindsay Chapman and Adrian Sergovich (guitars), Noah Earp (bass), along with his wife Kristen Benson (backing vocals), Jarrah Kurth (drums), and original bandmate Tyler Saunders (guitar).

Pack an esky, bring some snacks, and settle in at the beautiful Cooran Hall for a huge night of Australian rock, featuring songs from all seven Powderfinger records. Whether you're a die-hard fan or just keen to hear some of the greatest Australian songs ever written played loud and live, this is a night not to miss.
