Description

The City of Swan have partnered with the Machinery Preservation Club WA Inc. (MPC) to run walking tours through the iconic Power House building. The Power House building is a State Heritage site which is being run as a workshop and museum by the MPC. The Power House currently contains an extensive range of scale models of machinery used throughout it's history, including machinery used in 1904 during the initial startup, machinery used during the change to electricity around 1918, and a range of other machines that were used until March 1994 when the Power House closed.

On this fascinating tour you'll learn how the Power House supplied the steam, compressed air, hydraulic water and electricity to the nearby rail workshops. Our knowledgeable Machine Preservation Club tour guides will show you through the two rooms of the Power House: The Boiler House and The Engine Room.

The Boiler House housed seven enormous Babcock and Wilcox boilers, three Lancashire boilers and other equipment, and is currently home to a recently constructed clubroom plus a large range of historically significant engines and other equipment.

The Engine Room houses several engines which were remaining after the closure of the Midland Railway Workshops, and which the MPC is in the process of rebuilding and preserving, and an entry to the vast tunnel system which connects to other workshops in the precinct.
