Speakers

ANA PIMENTA, KING ISLAND NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT GROUP

Ana is passionate about local food and everything local. She is an advocate for sustainable farming and regenerative farming. She shares her passion for agriculture through farm tours with a paddock to plate experience and by being actively involved in the industry.

Ana and her husband Tom have a beef farm operation ( angus and angusx) in 810ha on King Island carrying in average 1500 head of cattle. Ana runs farm tours at her farm with a paddock to plate experience promoting King Island beef and other produce and cooking Portuguese food with the island ingredients. Ana and Tom also have a focus on maximising profitability as they are self-made farmers and build their business from scratch.

BILL HOFFMAN, HOFFMAN BEEF BENCHMARKING GROUP

Bill Hoffman, of Hoffman Beef Consulting and Benchmarking Group, is the co-ordinator of six Beef Profit groups in northern NSW. The HBC beef group collect data from NSW beef farms, seeking a 10% production lift that could earn the average participating farm an extra $100,000 gross income/year.

The project that Bill facilitated saw 23 beef businesses sharing more than 3000 items of data, ranging from stocking numbers to sales figures, total purchases and expenses for the 2016/17 season. These data sets were used as indicators of farm performance. Understanding the profit drivers in beef production is not a complex business, according to Bill Hoffman, and he shares that it’s actually quite simple.
