A Global, Experiential and Somatic Learning Journey

Online. April 19-May 12. Mondays and Wednesdays, 9-11 am Mexico City time.

The Ecoversities Alliance is one of the most diverse and powerful global movements to imagine education and learning differently, and on this journey you can discover why. Throughout a moon, we will collectively make a yatra, a journey with all the senses, visiting 21 initiatives in 16 countries, being greeted by local hosts, leaders in the field of putting into action radical imagination, love and care in these times of chaos.

This online journey, over 8 sessions, will be guided by a team dedicated to art, research, activism, and experiential, somatic and creative learning to accompany change in order to relate in freedom, joy and solidarity to interweave those other possible worlds that are heard beating in each of the experiences that we will visit.

Join us in this trip that will take us to the chacras of Cusco, in Peru; to the thousand-year-old olive groves of Salento, in southern Italy; to the wheat fields and the memory of Jordan; to the favelas of Sao Paulo, in Brazil; to monasteries in Thailand; to the healing biotope of Tamera, in Portugal; to the slopes of Comuna 13 in Medellín, Colombia; to the collectives of La Paz, in Bolivia; to the dignity of Kurdistan; to the learning city of Udaipur in India; to have tea in Cairo, Egypt; to the kitchens of Palestine; to the urban gardens of Johannesburg, in South Africa; to the central valleys of Oaxaca, and the forests of Michoacan, in Mexico; and to the dance halls of New York, in the United States.

Your trip includes:

- Accompaniment of the team of local hosts and organizing team;

- Recorded sessions for later reference during the time of the trip;

- somatic movement sessions and talking circle;

- Participation in discussion forums and social networks of the trip.

Somatic movement

After the visits, we offer a somatic movement session, where we will visit our first territory: the body. We will explore what is emerging and resonating in our internal world after listening to the practices and ideas of the other territories to which we travel. What parts of us vibrate and move when connecting with what vibrates and moves in other parts of the world? Do these feelings cease to be alien and do we discover them alive in ourselves? It is a space of internal freedom to suspend our judgments without a predetermined goal, learning through movement and intuition about the relationship between self, the other and the world, the experience of empathizing with the living body, beyond words, within the integral being.

Itinerary:

Day 1. Seeds

We will start our trip with a common ceremony to revitalize, care for and exchange the seeds that we contribute as a collective. With Elena Pardo, the director of the Center for the Promotion of Intercultural Wisdoms (CEPROSI) we will go to Cusco, where we will learn about Andean life where absolutely everything requires intertwining from time to time to be able to regenerate and invigorate. In the Watunakuy, family, community and cultural ties are regenerated through the chhalay or exchange of seeds, knowledge and wisdom, food, dances and songs that beat in unison with the Pacha and the stars during ritual ceremonies. From Peru we will travel to southern Italy where we will be welcomed by Luigi Coppola, from Casa delle Agriculture with whom we will learn about how in Salento those who sow utopia reap reality through different initiatives, such as the collective planting of millenary varieties of cereals, vegetables and legumes. , the recovery and regeneration of abused and abandoned lands, and the transformation of the products of the earth into gifts to the community to rethink a holistic model of development for the locality and the bioregion. From there we will travel to the town of Ghor Al Mazra'a in Jordan to be received by Lama Khatieb, with whom we will hear about how Zikra promotes alternative learning to empower people to reconnect with their local culture and traditions and to use the local knowledge to inspire sustainable solutions to the most difficult challenges of the community, both social, economic and environmental, redefining their identity and culture, while generating resources and livelihood for families.

Day 2. Spirit

We will start our day talking down the bridge with Hermes de Sousa, the founder of the Universidade das Kebradas, in Sao Miguel Paulista, where he will tell us about the spirit of the questions that animate the initiative of an education to solve the social and environmental dilemmas of the planet, with self-directed learning of young people accompanied by passionate people with what they do, where art, dance, cuisine and music are elements of expression and listening, learning the history of Brazil from the perspective of indigenous people and quilombolas, along with the life experience of the elders. We pack our bags in Sao Paulo to disembark in Thailand, where we are greeted by Petra Carman, the initiator of the Masters in Alternative Leadership, who will tell us how education should be imagined differently to include the cultivation of wisdom, as well as learning. to live in society overcoming oppression and exploitation, being effective, dialogic, inclusive and compassionate, healing the separation between body and mind. We then travel to Portugal, where Sabine Lichtenfelds embraces us with the vision of the Tamera Healing Biotope, a space animated by the vision of giving birth to Terra Nova, a world beyond war, in this center that investigates and models a new planetary culture, endowing the people with tools to build a regenerative and non-violent culture.

Day 3. Territories

We start the day on the slopes of Comuna 13, where El Aka, founder of Agroarte, receives us. Agroarte Colombia is a group that generates actions of memory and resistance in the city of Medellín, sowing philosophical and pedagogical bases based on the relationship between sowing and art, fed through processes of training, production –both agrarian and musical-, communication and symbolic resistance that seeks to strengthen the social fabric, intergenerational exchange and reappropriation of the territory, in a framework that understands peace as an ethical imperative of humanity. Between verses, we move to Kurdistan, where Alessia Dro shares with us about Jineolojî, the science of women, whose objective is to transform not only the self-determination of women but also the power systems, institutionalizations and mentalities built around the State, playing a crucial role in the deployment of an alternative to patriarchal capitalist modernity. From there we move to La Paz, in Bolivia, where Silvia Rivera Cusicanqui shares with us about the work of the Ch'ixi Collectivx and the El Tambo space, from where decolonizing practices and discourses are generated.

Day 4. Open Space

This day is a pause, aware that the rhythm requires movement, silences and rest. It is an emergent session, open to the offers of each one in the group, to propose, share, tell and weave with no other agenda than to breathe together for a moment and dedicate time for the self-organization of the traveling collective.

Day 5. Campfire

We will gather around the fire to tell stories, look at the stars and share dreams. Deeptime Network astronomer Stephan Martin will share with us about the epic story of human, Earth and cosmic transformation. Helena Norberg-Hodje will speak to us about Local Futures where most of our food comes from local producers, where money recirculates in the local economy, building prosperity in the community. Manish Jain tells us about the experiences of planetary movements to imagine education differently. And Charles Eisenstein will share some love letters from grandmothers .

Day 6. Rebellions

We will start in Jordan and Palestine with Munir Faseh listening to how in Arabic the same word is used to tell stories and to water plants and in that nourishment of minds and thoughts and bodies and plants we can find the soul of mujaawarah, which is hospitality, generosity, dignity, hope, respect, abundance, patience and faith in nature and people. We will then travel to the Cauca, where the process of Liberation of Mother Earth will receive us, where the Nasa peoples share with us their struggle to liberate the Earth from capitalism, liberating ourselves, recovering the lands, living in it and defending life. They tell us how to fight for the land is not a problem or a duty only of the indigenous people but an ancestral mandate of all peoples to defend life.

Day 7. Affects

We will start in the forests of Michoacán, where Pedro Reygadas shares with us about a new anthropology, a contemporary approach to the human as an open totality. A systemic approach to the dynamic rhizomatic complexity of its material carnality, its energy and information fields and its spirituality based on the information / energy of thought and consciousness. From Mexico we travel to the dance halls of the queer black community in New York, where Michael Roberson welcomes us, to tell us about how the community triumphs in the face of tragedy, terror and constant oppression, responding with self-love and expression, with militant tenderness and acts of true love where black trans women have managed to create “a way out where there was no way”, turning dance halls into churches where the universe is appreciated in its magnificence, tense, disorderly, problematic, liberating and oppressive at the same time .

Day 8. Party

As a pillar of community life and learning, the party calls us to close and open a cycle. We will reflect on the shared path and we will dedicate some time to celebrate the meeting and the possibilities that are opened thanks to it.
