Description

This in-person gathering brings together Indigenous leaders, Central American scholars, artists, poets, and community practitioners based in Central America, so-called Australia, Aotearoa  and Turtle Island.

The one day symposium explores ways of thinking from the isthmus that centre land, memory, displacement, arts and community knowledge.The symposium offers a space for shared reflection, creative exchange, and transnational solidarity.

The event opens with a Smoking Ceremony led by Djirri Djirri, followed by a Keynote Maya Kaqchiquel researcher, teacher, and activist, Dr. Aura Cumes. Subsequent sessions further discuss what it means to think, create, and organise from the isthmus today.

SESSION 5: Testimonio, Video y Comunidad with community organisations Florecemos Together (australia) and Asociación Salvadoreña Canadiense (ASALCA) (canada)


Join us to talk about all this centroamericanismo, isthmic epistemologies, land-based practices, historical memory, arts practice, testimonio and displacement.

*While the symposium itself will take place in person, some speakers will be joining via Zoom. Speakers participating remotely are indicated in the program.

*Symposium will be in Spanish and English.
