Description

Most agencies don't have a dedicated fraud unit. What they have is a patrol officer, deputy, or investigator who gets handed a fraud case along with everything else on their plate, and has to figure out how to build it into something a prosecutor will actually take.

Practical Fraud Investigations is a full-day, in-person training built for exactly that reality. It doesn't assume you have a task force, specialized software, or a caseload of nothing but financial crimes. It gives you a straightforward, repeatable process for organizing a fraud case from the first report to a courtroom-ready file, whether you handle one fraud case a year or one a week.

Taught by a Certified Fraud Examiner with hands-on investigative experience, this class stays practical throughout: real tools, real templates, and a step-by-step approach you can apply to your very next case, no matter how big or small your agency is.

What You Will Learn

  • A repeatable system for organizing any fraud case, from a simple bad check to a more involved scheme

  • Key terms and definitions you need to know to write a solid report and PC affidavit

  • Practical investigative tools that don't require specialized software or a dedicated unit

  • The state and federal statutes that apply to fraud cases at any level

  • Interview techniques that lock a suspect into an admissible statement

  • How to spot when a case that looks civil is actually criminal

  • How to use Excel, a tool every agency already has, to organize and present case evidence

  • How to identify a suspect through video and surveillance photos

  • How to read and process a credit card skimmer

  • What to do when a case turns out to be bigger than it looked (multiple victims, shared accounts, or an organized scheme)
