Description

Towards climate resilient futures: innovation and transition

In the lead up to the COP-31 UN Climate Conference in Türkiye in November 2026, there is increased attention on how to successfully transition to low carbon and climate resilient futures. Cities and regions face different challenges in regards to the impacts of climate change as well as opportunities to adapt. What innovations are apparent in terms of low carbon transitions? What role are nature-based solutions playing in efforts to respond to climate change? How are communities recovering from and adapting to environmental extremes? How effective are institutional efforts to realise climate resilient futures?

In this research showcase event, a panel of speakers with diverse experience undertaking climate-related research in Australia and abroad, will share their insights on successful efforts to transition to more climate resilient futures, and discuss some of the social, institutional and economic challenges that persist. This event is a collaborative initiative bringing together researchers from Macquarie University Housing and Urban Research Centre, Smart Green Cities Research Centre, the United Nations Academic Impact SDG Hub (Life on Land) and Lancet Countdown Oceania Regional Centre.
