Preachers Conference 2025
Event description
The Preachers Conference is an annual event to equip and enthuse preachers in New Zealand.
The conference runs over three days and is focused on the practical tasks involved in the hard work of a preaching ministry: Bible exposition and application.
Main Speaker
With the generous support of Grace Theological College we are pleased to host Bryan Chapell in 2025. Bryan will be teaching a Christ-centred Approach to Ephesians.
Bryan currently leads the Administrative Committee of the Presbyterian Church in America and serves as Pastor Emeritus of Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, Illinois and President Emeritus of Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. He serves on the faculties of numerous seminaries and Bible colleges in different parts of the world, and has the privilege of conducting pastors’ conferences in several nations each year.
Workshops
An important component of the conference is workshop groups with each participant presenting a Bible passage to a small group of peers. Each group will be led by an experienced preacher who will facilitate discussion and feedback.
Afternoon Seminars
This year we will be thinking through the principles and planning that goes into choosing what to preach.
- What do you preach if you get invited to speak as an invited guest somewhere else – or if you are filling in at your church once or twice a year?
- What do you preach in a term or across a year? Should you go slow or fast; small text or long passage; book of the Bible or pressing topic – are there right answers to those questions? Does it depend on style, personality or theological convictions? What shapes a series of sermons?
- What would you preach if you were in one place for a decade or two? Does it matter what the biblical diet is for the people of God in a local church over a long period of time?
We will hear from a number of speakers, what they do, and what theological convictions shape the pattern of preaching in their church.
Hospitality
We will also have some rest/relaxation or action/adventure time together - the Hawkes Bay offers us some great options. There will also be the usual mix of great food, rubbing shoulders with fellow-workers, and the opportunities to encourage one another through conversation. We do offer billets and airport pick-ups/drop-offs as well!
