Preserving Our Past: Opening Night
Event description
Preserving Our Past celebrates the stories and experiences of Afro-Kiwis in Aotearoa, offering visitors a chance to reflect on migration journeys, identity formation, and the ongoing negotiation of belonging, while also deepening understanding of the significance of Africa Day.
This installation, viewable during library hours, brings together materials from public archives and heritage collections alongside personal contributions, amplifying the diverse voices, memories, and histories of the African diaspora in Aotearoa.
Join us for our open night, where you can gain behind-the-scenes insight into this installation in an informal and welcoming environment. This gathering is an opportunity to connect, share reflections, and learn more about the stories that shape this offering. Registration is essential—RSVP via our Humanitix page.
We also invite and encourage visitors to contribute their own stories, memories, and reflections throughout the exhibition, enriching the installation with fresh perspectives and fostering deeper community connections.
Preserving Our Past is part of Africa Month, an arts and culture programme celebrating the diverse African diaspora communities in Aotearoa each May. To stay up to date with the Africa Month 2025 programme, follow Vocal Roots on all social media platforms.
